A favorite Marilyn Monroe’s quote about wearig nothing to bed except a few drops of Chanel No. 5 has finally been made into an ad campaign. And the actress herself is now a face of a fragrance.

The fashion house used the old footage and an interview excerpt in a short film to trace all the accounts of the actress saying she wore Chanel No. 5. One of such accounts was an audio interview where she says:

You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed ? A pajama top? The bottoms of the pajamas? A nightgown?’ So I said, ‘Chanel No. 5,’ because it’s the truth… And yet, I don’t want to say ‘nude’. But it’s the truth!”

The perfume that was launched back in 1921 was presented by a range of celebs and stars through the decades which included Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou, and Brad Pitt, the first man to become a face of Chanel No. 5. Now the iconic scent will be presented by the icon herself. You can see that she didn’t part with her favorite scent even in the photoshoots. In one of them she really does lay in bed wearing nothing apparently except Chanel No. 5 that sits on her nighstand.

The question is why make Marilyn the face of the scent now? Guess the recent MAC makeup collection could inspire Chanel or just any time is good as ever for anything that involves Monroes’ name.

The full campaign is expected to roll out later in Fall. What do you think about the idea?
