Paris Hilton’s Canned Wine Banned
Paris Hilton is usually very good as a business lady but this time her wine campaign flopped. She was gold sparkling like the Prosecco product she promoted on the ads but the poor sales figures attracted the food controllers who say the wine can’t be served in a tin.
The bubble burst when the Italian Agriculture Ministry launched a legal challenge to ban makers from calling the canned wine a ‘rich prosecco,’ on the grounds it was not being served in a bottle.
“Paris Hilton is sensationalism. It’s not good. It’s not adequate for Prosecco,” said Fulvio Brunetta, president of the wine growers association of Treviso, the northern Italian city in the Veneto region where Prosecco is made.
To respect wine laws, Rich Prosecco’s two fruit varieties, with a lower alcohol content and called Rich Passion and Rich Royal, are not labelled Prosecco.
The winegrowers are concerned that Rich Prosecco may give their wine the image of a cheap fruit drink.
“We follow exactly European laws, which are very strict, especially concerning wine,” said Rich Prosecco Chief Executive and owner Gunther Aloys, who founded the company in 2006 in the Austrian ski resort of Ischgl.
Strict rules are based on the prevention sparkling prosecco wine from being sold in anything except a bottle.
However, maker Gunther Aloys has defended the product:
“We’ll just change its name – and we’re talking with Paris about extending our contract to market the new product.”
