Marc Jacobs Models Wore Zero Makeup At New York Fashion Week

A lot of makeup artists used “natural makeup” in their collections during New York Fashion Week. And when they say natural it means apply some primer, even the skin out with foundation, contour with bronzer and correct where needed using a concealer, a little blush on cheeks and a touch of lip balm on the lips. Very natural. Marc Jacob announced that “no makeup” means absolutely no makeup.

We applied moisturizer and that’s it, period,

says François Nars, Marc Jacobs show makeup artist.

What you see is what you get.

The #iwokeuplikethis face is the new worldwide trend. But Marc Jacobs took it to a whole new level. Sending his models including Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, and Gigi Hadid down the runway wearing absolutely no makeup instantly became the breaking news. Everybody talks about it and loves the idea. Nars says:

In the ’60s, ’50s, and ’40s, women had to wear makeup. It was a rule. Today there are no rules—you can do anything you want.

François Nars himself spent the whole time before and during the show backstage, making sure all the models were properly moisturized.

I am probably the only makeup artist in the world who also loves women with no makeup,

François said.

I don’t like middle of the road. I like to go extreme whatever it is. Either lots of makeup for a strong look, or no makeup, which is also a strong look. If it works with the concept and the hair and the clothes, it’s a great statement.

Models only wore thick black wigs with bangs covering their eyes.

Marc sees them almost like an army of girls on the runway,

explained Nars.

The colors of the clothes are really military: beige, khaki, camels, chocolates. The actual color comes from the set, which is quite bright. So the makeup is actually on the house, not on the girls.

Well, we absolutely love this trend. Let me know what you think about it in the comments section below.
