Charlotte Gainsbourg New Face of Balenciaga

Actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of icons Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, will be the face of Balenciaga’s new fragrance launching in February next year.

Gainsbourg says via WWD:

I have the feeling that the house of Balenciaga has become my second home.”

Creative director of the Balenciaga iconic house Nicolas Ghesquière, who described Gainsbourg as “one of the most inspiring girls in the world” and “really representative of what France is today,” commented his decision:

Her unique sense of style, her graceful and intense talent have always been very inspirational for me,” he said. “This fruitful and long-standing relationship Charlotte has with me and the house of Balenciaga gives all its meaning to this project.”

The new, as yet unnamed scent will be produced by Coty who also have created fragrances for Sarah Jessica Parker and Kylie Minogue.

Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of marketing for Coty Prestige, revealed to WWD yesterday:

It was less about who can we get to endorse it and was more about developing a fragrance around her and Nicolas’ thoughts”.

Gainsbourg, who released the album 5:55 with French pop duo Air, is currently in L.A shooting the ad campaign for the scent, and will be the guest of honour at a party there this week to launch the fragrance.
