Thong is loved by so many of us that it’s hard to imagine a girl who doesn’t have at least a piece in her wardrobe. It is comfortable to wear under clinging and transparent clothes and a swimsuit with a thong provides a nice even tan for your skin. However, wearing a thong too often can be dangerous.
A well-known gynecologist Lisa Masterson from Los Angeles has recently published the results of her long-term study about the influence of a thong on woman’s health. So, what was she able to find out?
According to Lisa thong, when worn on the regular basis, can cause serious problems. First of all these flirty panties favor the development of yeast vaginal infections as well as urinary infections.
This type of underwear is usually made from synthetic materials, such as nylon. It is a common fact that such fabrics tend to keep moisture and warm moist environment is perfect for dangerous bacteria existence.
Besides, thong can ‘help’ the infection spread quickly. Lisa Masterson affirms that rectal bacteria have a good chance to get into vagina through the strip of a thong.
Secondly, too frequent wear of a thong can lead to irritation, injuries and even piles.
What can be done to avoid the problem?
Lisa Masterson recommends wearing a thong as rare as possible. And if you choose to put it on follow the rules you see below:
1. Never wear a thong when the weather is hot or wet.
2. Opt for natural materials such as silk or cotton. They let the air through and impede the green house effect appearance.
3. Wear a thong of your size. Too tight thong is much more dangerous than the one that fits you well.
4. Avoid wearing a thong all day long. If there is a chance to change it for something more comfortable and providing fuller coverage, do that.
5. If you prefer synthetic fabrics use daily sanitary pads and change them regularly.
6. Better stay away from swimsuits with a thong.

Natural material hold more moisture than synthetics. Look at any and all running gear – you will not find cotton, wool or silk. Get your facts straight.

Dr. O,
I think the point is not that synthetics hold moisture but that they don’t allow the moisture to evaporate or “breathe” versus something made from a natural material such as cotton, wool, or silk.

I’ve already read another article similar to this one. It’s just plain common sense. . .just by looking at how it is worn, you can see and say it’s very unsanitary. The string sticks directly to the anus and part of it to the v_____. Yuck!!!

Yes , natural fibers absorb more than synthetics…true. The synthetics, though, docreate a sort of vapor barrier allowing the “inside” area to build up moisture…the oint of the statement. The so called “wicking” factor of synthetics is limited as we have all found with spandex exercise gear. You clothes for any occasion should match the activity and environment. I still love thongs though… :)

Anon, you can say “anus” but not “vulva” (though you probably thought “vagina”?
I don’t get that…

I agree Bubba, the word “anus” seems is one of those words that usually people have a harder time saying vs. vagina.

Thongs originated with strippers, and I don’t think they are well known for their hygiene.

I never thought those things were comfortable at all. I tried them before. I mean come on … there’s a reason they are called butt floss. And I see girls at the beach, when they think nobody is looking, pick and pull swim-suit thongs outta their cracks. I really don’t think that anything rubbing against the anal sphincter is to be considered something “good”, but each to their own, I guess. Some people will endure just about anything to be looked at. (Not trying to judge or dissuade anyone from their free choice — just my own outlook on the subject.)
