Skin exfoliation
Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin to make way for the clearer skin underneath. Exfoliation is necessary as it helps to get rid of dry, dead skin cells which block your pores and then lead to blackheads, acne, and plenty of other skin problems.
Exfoliation done on the regular basis will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, blotchiness and discoloration, and provide you with a much younger and fresher look.
Nowadays there are many products at the market that promise immediate results. Some of them are really effective. But what we can say for sure is – home remedies are always much better and more invigorating for your skin. Remember that exfoliating should be done every 14 days, and in some cases weekly.
Types of Exfoliates
As you want to remove dead skin cells you should be aware of the fact there are two basic types of exfoliates: those that remove flaky skin through the use of abrasion, and those that use chemicals to dissolve or peel off the skin’s outer layer. Home remedies to exfoliate skin are mostly focused on abrasives, small items that gently rub or slough off dead skin cells.
You would be surprised to know that some of the best exfoliates are found right in your pantry. They are: salt, sugar, oatmeal – everything that has grains which are ideal for dead skin removal. Before you make your exfoliate, make sure there are no small rocks or sharp edges in the mix of your ingredients. Your goal is to gently abrade the skin, avoiding scratching it. Too aggressive exfoliating with large or sharp grains can lead to skin irritation.
Basic Oatmeal Facial Scrub
When you have no time to spend on walking with your face covered in something, basic oatmeal scrub is the best choice.
Ingredients
• 2 teaspoons ground oatmeal
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• little water
When all the ingredients are ready you can start. Combine oatmeal and baking soda stirring them until they are well mixed. Then add water, mere drops at a time, stirring until a paste forms. After that you can apply the scrub to face, gently rubbing in a circular motion. Rinse well and pat dry. No much efforts but result is excellent.
Sweet Oatmeal Facial Scrub
If you want to pamper your skin a bit this spa-style recipe will be a good option. You will need:
• 2 tablespoons finely ground oatmeal
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 1/2 cup vegetable or almond oil (almond is best)
• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
Mix all the ingredients. Apply to wet face, rubbing gently.
Then rinse well and pat dry.
Skin can be perfectly cleansed at home using the bran or crumb of the black bread soaked in solution of water with baking soda and boric acid. There is another recipe as well: mix a table spoon of grated carrots with as much of olive oil and semolina.
Apply the cream and leave on the face for 20 minutes, once time is up, roll the cream off with your fingertips.
Make sure to apply some moisturizing cream after the procedure.
It is obvious that since all the dead cells are removed face skin looks much better after the exfoliation. However, there are also times when you shouldn’t do the procedure.
For example, when your skin is sunburnt or broken or slightly cut. In case you have a problem skin type or you have been diagnosed with some skin disease, before exfoliating consult a doctor as the process can aggravate the problem even more.
