DIY Lip Balm
Making your own lip balm, not only is fun, but can become a really good present. So, for this project you will need to have:
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets;
- 2 tablespoons carrier oil;
- A few drops essential oil or oils, depending on how many you make;
- Lipstick shavings in desired color;
Special equipment: heatproof glass jar, plastic pipettes, cosmetic-style plastic tubes, slide tins, or metal pots.
For the lipm balm it is usually acceptable to use the edible scent of the essential oil, such as a fruits. So, first step is to put the beeswax and carrier oil in jar, which would be heatproof glass, and close the lid. Then heat the jar in a pot of water over medium-low heat until the wax has melted, the gently remove the jar from the pot. Then stir the mixture with a spoon, and add the essential oils, the amount depends on the scent you like. Then, do the same procedure but adding color to the lipstick shaving. To transfer lip balm into the container you will need to use a pipette. Then, let it dry for an hour.
If you are concerned with presenting the lip balms, you can even make them all nice and labeled. Search the internet for the appropriat labeling, or perhaps design your own. One of the coolest ways to decorate is to use water-slide decal paper, which is clear and looks like it has been printed directly onto the container. One you have made your labels and decided on the containers, either round or rectangular, print the labels onto the water-slide decal paper. Then, spray with clear-coat varnish, and let it dry. Next you will need to cut out each label and transfer it to a bowl of water; soak until decals start to separate from paper backings, which will take about 1 minute. Then, slide decals from the papers and onto clean containers and remove excess water with a paper towel. Let it dry for 2 hours. Now you have your own handmade lip balm!
